Second, Switzer provides a child-friendly libretto of the opera The Magic Flute, intensified by photographs of the Salzburg Marionettes in performance. The third division introduces the Salzburg Marionette Theater, which specializes in Mozart operas. The audience for this book is slim, perhaps, but this is a fine biography in which Mozart becomes accessible–a real person full of integrity and ability, as well as pride and irresponsibility. Jim Money just wants his cash back from Chuck. Chuck refuses to remunerate it back, and when Chuck’s hardened brothers show up, Jim is forced to back down as shots are fired as he narrowly escaped danger.

Jim calls his best friend Steve to go gather from Chuck. Meanwhile, Jessica explains to Jim that though she loves the cash he makes from illegal gambling and hustling, she wants a normal life free of the dangers related with his lifestyle. After spending years building his gambling empire, Jim is reluctant at first, but he thinks when it comes to it awhile and decides to take a gamble. Besides, he would have a loving wife, and a stable family life free of the criminal constituents that haunt him. He realizes that he could have that with Jessica. But before Jim could tell her, she receives a phone call and shuts Jim out.

THE NEXT DAY…

Jim receives a phone call from Carla, Steve’s wife.

She insists that her husband and Jessica are having a fling. Jim denies that Jessica or Steve would do that to him, but he humors Carla. He picks her up and they go to Jessica’s house. But when they arrive, they are greeted with a more sinister truth.

Will Jim Money get the wife and family life that he wants, or is he biting off more than he may chew?

So bad I wish I could give it a negative star review.

Find your voice and then your audience, this author does neither successfully. The characters don’t even know who they are and the plot holds no surprises other than the fact that the reader is expected to believe these morons are able to live without supervision. Even free this ‘story’ isn’t worth the space it takes up on my kindle and has since been deleted.

Strangely Amusing

First, be warned this is a short story. The story is entertaining, I’ll definitely say that. It starts quickly right out of the gate. I’m not really a fan of short stories and while a portion of it I really wish the author would have expounded on a bit more, I wasn’t necessarily disppointed with it. The ending, while probably shocking to most, I found quite amusing, but you have to take into account my penchant for craziness! lol. All in all I would recommend this quick read to others!

Of all the reasons you’ll click the Add to Shopping Cart button next to Baby Einstein’s Baby Mozart–and there are many–the best one is that playing this record for babies doesn’t feel weird. Instead of subjecting tiny, tender ears to the kind of Mozart that may make adult classical fans wilt when tackled by a maestro who means business, this is Mozart lite, mixed and mastered by a dad, Bill Weisbach, who’s without doubt or question hung around for his portion of crib-side cooing. The more or less tinny sound of a child’s piano sweeps the sting out of Piano Sonata in B Flat’s third movement; the basi motion of Concerto for Flute and Harp in C floats by, birdlike; variations on “Ah vous dirai-je, Maman” translate to a fancy-sounding (but adorable) “Twinkle, Twinkle”; and Piano Sonata in F’s third motion snuggles so deeply into it is childlike setting that if you close your eyes, you’ll see a pastel parade of animals drifting by overhead. Other pieces (more aptly called fragments, since only one track stretchings beyond the three-minute mark), like Symphony No. 41′s fourth movement, wander into more robust Mozart territory, but it’s here the claims when it comes to classical music heightening young kids’ abstract reasoning achievements and spatial intelligence crystallize. Babies strapped in for a roller coaster of sounds that graciously dips, swerves, and high-jumps like this version, do have to routine what they’re hearing in some way (and a case could be made that the instruments Weisbach’s chosen–the vibraphone, glockenspiel, and music box amidst them–make it more likeable for them to do so). Followers of Julie Aigner-Clark’s Baby Einstein empire, a good deal of of whom opted out of the fan club once Disney purchased the company in 2001, won’t trip over a single Mickey Mouse-ified sound here. This is pure, plugged in, and muted Mozart, and if it doesn’t make your baby smarter, it’ll at least sound awfully sweet issuing from your nursery’s speakers. –Tammy La Gorce

Creative & Soothing

I like classical music, but some of the pieces have crescendos and accents that make it very difficult to listen to when you just want to relax. When I saw Baby Beethoven, I bought it and enjoyed it. I saw Baby Mozart at a different store and instantly picked it up.

The music doesn’t have the sudden musical attacks that classical music has because the instant sound can frighten little ones. That is one of the great things about this CD. I can listen to in when I just want to sit down and relax.

I also like that the pieces and the CD itself, it’s too long. I can finish the CD during a nice bath. The music also isn’t too loud in general, so you don’t have to have the CD player volume at full blast one moment, just to hear the music and almost off the next, so you can keep your hearing.

I highly recommend this CD, whether you have little ones or not.

Baby Mozart instantly calms the fussies in the car!

The second our baby (now 1 year old) hears the orchestra “tuning up”, the whimpering from the back seat stops, and there is blissful silence for the duration of the CD, except for between songs, when we get an appreciative “ba-ba”. And, the music does not grate on mom and dad’s nerves, either…so we can listen to it over and over again with no problem. (This, in our book, is the hallmark of a successful children’s CD.) We got the DVD of Baby Mozart too, which our son adores.

For anybody with more than a casual interest in music, any music, A History of Baroque Music: Instrumental Music and it is associate volume committed to secular music will prove invaluable. Here, thoughtfully arranged as five thematic programmes, is an anthology that delivers incisively what the title promises, and in doing so lays out the foundations of Western music; not just classical music, but the folk tradition and most everything else that has developed since. Despite the budget price, the collection is attractively packaged like a miniature LP box set, each disc staged in it is own tastefully designed card sleeve. There is an astonishing six and a half hours of music, from the emergence of instrumental forms in the early 16th century to the development of the baroque orchestra and the concerto, with the final disc being devoted to an exploration of the specifically German Lutheran and polyphonic tradition. Incredible sound, incredible performances

This 5-CD set, one of three parts of an anthology of baroque music originally called “Pathways of Baroque Music,” is undoubtedly the best introduction to Baroque music that has been issued, and it should be in the collection of every lover of Baroque or classical music. Unlike most anthologies or single-disk samplings of baroque music, the works are arranged according to genre and in historical order. Thus the set is extremely useful for increasing our understanding of Baroque instrumental music and its development, while giving us a taste of many composers and works that even hardened Baroque music lovers like myself may never have heard of.

What is more, the quality of the recordings and of the disks is unmatched — I have never heard better sound out of my stereo equipment than I have with these disks, except perhaps when playing DVDs with 5-track surround sound and DTS. While these are only “conventional” CDs, I think they even sound better than the small number of SACDs that I have purchased. I wish harmonia mundi would re-release the whole 15-CD collection in large quantity so that we can purchase them new instead of used!

History of Baroque Music: great sound, wealth of information

This review is based on the French edition. The textual portion of the booklet is trilingual (French, English, German). The playlist is partly bilingual. The music is grouped and subgrouped by genre.

Disks:
The Emergence of Instrumental Music-transition from the earlier Renaissance: Improvisation, toccata, dance,etc.
Chamber Music
The Baroque Orchestra
Concerto
The Specifically German

All of the last four are similarly subgrouped.

The text is very informative about genres and specific compositions. This recording is refreshing in that it presents some lovely but lesser known music of the Baroque era.

Above all, Baroque music is a wonderful stress-buster. It is a shame this lovely collection has been so hard to get.

Stokowski, the forgotten master of this century

I recall as a kid listening to my parents tape of Stokowski conducts Bach in the car. I adored the Little fugue in G minor. I spent a long time looking for his work on CD, and this disc is it. It’s beautifully recorded (Stokowski was the first conducter to look at a recording as a work of art, not just a reproduction of a performance). Of course, it’s not what Bach wrote… it’s important to realize that these works become a collaberation between Stokowski and Bach–and a successful one at that. The point is not whether it is what Bach wrote (recall of course that Bach did the same thing to the masters he admired (and either way, it’s of no matter. the only thing that matters is the work itself)). The music is dramatic, it’s beautiful, and it’s brilliant. A Mighty Fortress is unimaginably rich, this is definitely a must have recording.

Great Bach transcriptions by a great Bach performer.

Leopold Stokowski was one of the greatest conductors — and musical geniuses — of the 20th century. But before he was a conductor he was an organist, and he had a special love for the music of Bach. After he switched from the organ to conducting Stokowski transcribed many of Bach’s organ works for orchestra so that he could expose them to a wider audience. His transcriptions, which were initially quite controversial, are now recognized as masterpieces which other conductors now perform. But no one performs them with quite the genius, dedication, and love as Stokowski did. This CD presents several of the greatest Bach/Stokowski transcriptions conducted by Stokowski himself and at a bargain price. Who knows how long it will be available? Please do yourself a favor and get it while you can.

this will rock your world

One of the pieces on this CD is Stokowski’s arrangement of one of Schemelli songs by Bach, “Mein Jesu, was für Seelenweh befallt dich in Gethsemane.” A very simple song, I remember it as an exercise in figured bass at school. When I heard Stokowski’s rendition of it, I was shocked by the immediacy of the emotion. I could not believe what I heard. This type of musicianship is absolutely devastating. None of the living musicians can possibly apporoach this. His handling of the string section is not of this world, it will leave you breathless. Just listen to his phrasing — and you will be undone in a minute. And this is just a simple 3 minute devotional song…

Of course, there are other arrangemets — the organ Passacaglia is outstanding. Stokowski was trained first as organist, came here to the US from England, worked at St. Bartholomew Church in New York, then discovered a conductor in himself. I don’t think he ever studied conducting; he just invented his own conducting technique, and it worked for him well. But what a musician!
